NGC 604, a stellar nursery seen through X-rays

About 3 million light-years away in the vicinity of the spiral galaxy M33, the vast stellar nursery NGC 604 has about 1,300 light-years across, about 100 times the size of the Orion Nebula.

The blue areas of the image are hot gas. In fact, among the regions of star formation in the Local Group of galaxies, NGC 604 is the second largest after 30 Doradus, also known as the Tarantula Nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud.

This color composite X-ray data (in blue) from the Chandra Observatory and Hubble optical data, we show that the bubbles cavernous NGC 604 and its cavities are filled with tenuous hot gas emission X-ray

is fascinating as well as such that NGC 604 is divided by a wall of gas relatively frío.Al west side (right) of the nebula, the data tell us that the material is heated to X-ray strong winds from a cluster of about 200 young, massive stars.

the east side filled cavities appear to be more X-rays old, suggesting that supernova explosions in the end of the evolution of a massive star, have contributed to its formation.
